HC Deb 15 December 1970 vol 808 cc301-2W
92. Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what change he expects in cucumber prices next year in view of the increased imports quotas.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The market price for cucumbers is determined by supply and demand, both of which may vary for seasonal and other reasons. Import quotas apply only to Eastern Area countries which send a very small proportion of total supplies. The arrangements for next year, which are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, have not yet been concluded.
