HC Deb 14 December 1970 vol 808 c216W
57. Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his policy on the level of unemployment in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he is aware that the November unemployment figure for Great Britain was the highest for three years; and, within the statutory power and authority invested in him and his Department, what action he intends to take to reduce unemployment in Wales, if need be by establishing a special department within the Welsh Office to deal with all matters pertaining to Welsh employment and unemployment.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I am aware that the policies of the previous Administration have led to the present unemployment situation but I am confident that our policies will lead to an improvement.

The November rate for total registered unemployed in Wales is the lowest recorded November rate for four years.
