HC Deb 14 December 1970 vol 808 cc234-5W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, in view of the threat to British glove manufacturers from overseas competition and its effect on companies in development areas, if he will undertake to act when necessary to withdraw or modify the duty-free entry.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The United Kingdom offer in the U.N.C.T.A.D. generalised tariff preference scheme retains the right to withdraw or modify duty-free entry for any product, including leather gloves, under this scheme if the new preference results in such increased imports as to cause or threaten serious injury to our own manufacturers.
