HC Deb 11 December 1970 vol 808 c198W
Mr. Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what discussions she proposes to have with the Inner London Education Authority, in whose area 53,468 children were allowed, during the autumn term of 1969, free school dinners, to ensure that no child in need is refused school dinners, because of the proposed increased charges of meals.

Mrs. Thatcher

None. New arrangements for assessing entitlement to free school meals will be introduced in all local education authority areas when the charge is increased in April next. They will provide for the remission of the charge at incomes substantially above the present levels and should ensure that no child in need is deprived of a school meal.
