HC Deb 11 December 1970 vol 808 cc204-5W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his present estimate of the number of homeless families in the United Kingdom; and how this estimate is arrived at.

Sir K. Joseph

My information relates to families in temporary accommodation maintained by local authorities. Returns from authorities in England and Wales of the position on 30th September last gave a total of 4,680 families then in temporary accommodation. It is estimated that the corresponding number in Scotland is 80.
