HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 cc156-7W
61. Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of registered disabled people on the current register in St. Helens; how many have been placed in remunerative employment in each of the last five years for which he has information; and what measures his Department have taken to obtain employment for them.

Mr. Dudley Smith

At the last count there were 2,313 registered disabled people in the St. Helens area. 435 of these were unemployed on 9th November this year. During the years ending October, 1970, 1969, and 1968, 180, 280 and 284 registered disabled people were placed in employment by the local exchange. Figures for earlier years are not readily available. The whole range of the employment services for the disabled is available to those at St. Helens, as elsewhere.
