HC Deb 10 December 1970 vol 808 cc171-2W
87. Mr. Patrick McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will immediately abolish British Standard Time, in view of the danger to the lives of schoolchildren and others occasioned by traffic light failure on dark mornings as a result of the unexpectedly severe effects of the electricity workers dispute.

Mr. Maudling

No. The electricity workers' dispute is affecting the power supply at both ends of the day and I have no reason to believe that the situation would be improved by an immediate reversion to Greenwich Mean Time.
