HC Deb 09 December 1970 vol 808 cc124-5W
43. Mr. Dormand

asked the Lord President of the Council whether, in view of the hours spent in the building by Members, he will provide facilities for physical exercise in the Palace of Westminster.

44. Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Lord President of the Council what consideration has been given to the provision of facilities for physical exercise in the House.

Mr. Whitelaw

There is no accommodation available within the Palace of Westminster which could be made available for this purpose. It was recommended by the Services Committee in their Third Report of the 1968–69 Session thata total space of about 13,500 sq. feet should be provided for recreational facilities in the proposed new Parliamentary building.
