HC Deb 08 December 1970 vol 808 cc96-7W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the average increase in the prices of eggs, toiletries, baked beans, beer, cigarettes and bread in the last five months; and what were the comparable figures in each of the last eight years.

Mr. Bryan

The latest figures available relate to 20th October, 1970; therefore the following table gives the percentage changes between mid-June and mid-October in each of the years 1962 to 1970:

courts without excessive cost in time and money to the courts; and if he will investigate the possibilities of making collection through the income tax system.

Mr. Sharples

Ways of improving the collection of fines are being discussed with those concerned. Collection through the income tax system has been considered, but found to be impracticable; the attachment of earnings procedure is, however, available for this purpose.
