Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the total of 523 persons in Harlesden and Willesden awarded pensions under Section 1 of the National Insurance (Old persons' and widows' pensions and attendance allowance) Act were previously in receipt of supplementary benefit; and, when this has been allowed for, what will be the total additional weekly cost now falling on the Exchequer.

I regret that the information requested is not available. It is however known that the national proportion of these new pensioners previously receiving supplementary benefit is about 33 per cent.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many men and women of the age of 80 years and living in the Newark area have been granted a pension under the National Insurance (Old persons' and widows' pensions and attendance allowance) Act.

The number of awards made under Section 1 of the National Insurance (Old persons' and widows' pensions and attendance allowance) Act, 1970 in the area covered by the Newark local office up to and including 2nd December, 1970 is 125. Other offices which cover parts of the Newark constituency have made awards up to the same date as follows:
