HC Deb 04 December 1970 vol 807 c476W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what terms Mr. Ronald Burroughs, a member of the Diplomatic Service, was seconded to Northern Ireland; what is the amount of his salary and personal allowances; what are the expenses of his office and staff; and to what extent attending the Stormont Parliament forms part of his duty.

Mr. Sharples

Mr. Burroughs has been seconded from the Diplomatic Service at the request of the Home Office for special duty in Northern Ireland. He receives salary and allowances of £6,935 a year. The cost of his office and staff is about £20,000 a year. The United Kingdom Representative is expected to keep himself fully informed of the political life of Northern Ireland of which Parliamentary debate necessarily forms a part.
