HC Deb 04 December 1970 vol 807 cc487-8W
Lieut.-Colonel Colin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will report progress on the tests being carried out on anti-jack-knifing arrester systems for articulated vehicles; and whether he supports in principle the introduction of legislation for such equipment to be compulsory should the tests prove satisfactory.

Mr. Peyton

Road trials of improved versions of equipment designed to prevent wheel locking are proceeding. Progress is being made in overcoming problems in the operation of load-sensing equipment and trials with other equipment continue.

A decision on the means of ensuring use of effective anti-jack-knifing measures cannot yet be taken.
