HC Deb 04 December 1970 vol 807 c475W
Sir H. Legge-Bourke

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether Her Majesty's Government has yet taken any decision on participation in the project for the 300 GeV accelerator at C.E.R.N.

Mrs. Thatcher

Yes. We have decided that the United Kingdom should participate with the other European countries which are members of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (C.E.R.N.) in building a 300 GeV accelerator near the existing C.E.R.N. site at Geneva. A careful appraisal of priorities within the civil science budget has made it possible for the cost to be found without additional public expenditure.
