HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 c443W
Mr. Rees-Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will review the Shop Acts; and whether, as an interim measure, he will legislate to provide a discretion enabling shops to open in the evenings within an acceptable framework of opening hours.

Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he now proposes to introduce legislation to amend the Shops Act in order to permit all retail stores to carry on six-day trading if they so wish.

Mr. Carlisle

The House will have the opportunity of considering these and other aspects of weekday trading by shops when it comes to debate the Shops (Weekday Trading) Bill introduced by my hon. Friend the Member for Dorset, South (Mr. Evelyn King), which is down for Second Reading on Friday, 11th December. My right hon. Friend would not wish to anticipate that debate.
