HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 c431W
38. Mr. George Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to ensure that police authorities in the Metropolitan Police area take action on complaints of harassment of tenants made to them.

Mr. Sharples

When such complaints are made to the police, their function (which they well understand) is to prevent breaches of the peace; to make such investigations as they can on the spot into possible criminal offences; to warn those concerned of possible offences under the Rent Act, 1965; and to report on any such offences to the local authority.
