HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 cc460-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT details available to him from international sources giving the family allowance scheme as payable in each of the countries of the Six compared with those paid in Great Britain; and whether, as a means of facilitating British entry into the European Economic Community, he will take steps to make British payments similar to those paid in Belgium.

Mr. Dean

The Family allowance schemes of some of the Member States of the Community are too complex to be summarised in the OFFICIAL REPORT, but there are comparative tables in the Library of the House. I have no reason to think that the assimiliation of the British scheme of family allowances to the Belgian scheme would facilitate our entry into the Community.
