HC Deb 03 December 1970 vol 807 c468W
Mr. Dormand

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the number of schools in England and Wales now designated as comprehensive schools; and how many of that number have an intake covering the full ability range.

Mr. van Straubenzee

In January of this year there were 1,145 comprehensive schools in England and Wales. Local education authorities determine the arrangements for the admission of pupils, and the Department has no information on which to assess the number of schools admitting the full ability range.
