HC Deb 02 December 1970 vol 807 cc386-7W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many long-stay beds in private nursing homes are currently on contract to the National Health Service in each regional board area; what number of beds is involved; and what were the total capital and revenue costs on contracts of this kind charged to the National Health Service in 1969.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

This information is not available centrally.

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many visits have been made by the Scottish Hospital Advisory Service to private nursing homes which have long-stay beds on contract to the National Health Service; and what advice has been given to regional boards to ensure that patient-care in contract beds in private homes is of equal standard to that in National Health Service hospitals.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

All private nursing homes must be registered with and inspected by the local health authority and it is not at present proposed that the Hospital Advisory Service should visit such homes. Regional boards were advised some time ago that they should satisfy themselves as to the adequacy of the treatment and care given in institutions outside the National Health Service with which they have contractual arrangements.
