HC Deb 02 December 1970 vol 807 c413W
Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what research is proceeding to find a cure for migraine; and with what results.

Mrs. Thatcher

I have been asked to reply.

Basic research which may throw light on the problem of migraine is being carried out under the auspices of the Medical Research Council and in university departments; this work includes studies on cerebral blood flow, hormone disturbances and disorders of the special sense. Clinical, biochemical, psychological and pharmacological studies directly centered on migraine are also in progress; a substantial amount of such work is being supported by the Migraine Trust, the principal voluntary body sponsoring research into this disorder.

While it is probable that migraine is a set of symptoms occurring as a result of several quite different causes, continued work on present lines appears to offer the best prospect for success.
