§ Mr. Martenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs 426W whether Her Majesty's Government still stand by the assurance given to New Zealand by previous Administrations, namely, that Her Majesty's Government would seek to secure special arrangements to protect the vital interests of New Zealand and that Great Britain would not feel able to join the European Economic Community unless such arrangements were secured.
§ Mr. Anthony RoyleAs my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster told on the House on 25th November when speaking of New Zealand, there is no reason to suppose that there is any country in the Community which does not accept that this is a special problem which must be dealt with in a special way. The decision on whether Her Majesty's Government will recommend joining the Communities will depend upon obtaining satisfactory terms in the negotiations.—[Vol. 807, c. 438.]
