asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will approve the proposal of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board to pay an annual increase of 2½ per cent. per annum to its pensioners.

My right hon. Friend is now in a position to approve this proposal

53. Mr. Palmer

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that the South of Scotland Electricity Board has not yet made application to him to apply an annual increase in pensions of 2½ per cent. per annum, as is now the practice of the electricity boards in England and Wales; and what action he proposes to take.

I understand that the board will be considering the possibility of such an increase when it receives the quinquennial valuation of its superannuation fund.
