HC Deb 02 December 1970 vol 807 c428W
Mr. Fidler

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the authority for fixing bank holidays is fragmented, in that the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry is responsible for bank holidays other than at Christmas and Easter, while the Chancellor of the Exchequer is responsible for the Christmas bank holiday and the Home Secretary is responsible for the Easter bank holiday; and if he will take steps to bring the responsibility for fixing all bank holidays under one authority.

The Prime Minister

The Treasury is responsible for the administration of the Bank Holidays Acts which fix the statutory dates for bank holidays and provide for changes in those dates in special cases. Other Departments advise on changes and may in appropriate cases announce the dates.
