HC Deb 01 December 1970 vol 807 c331W
83. Mr. Kelley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state the purposes for which a large number of ponies were shipped from Great Yarmouth during recent weeks.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Ponies may be exported only for breeding, riding or exhibition. If the hon. Member has any evidence that exports in recent weeks were for any other purpose, I hope he will supply me with it.

84. Mr. Kelley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the regulations imposed over the movement of ponies from one place to another for the purposes of sale.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Orders under the Diseases of Animals Act provide for the protection of ponies in transit by road, rail or sea. Under the Ponies Act, 1969 ponies may be exported only for breeding, riding or exhibition. Otherwise there are no restrictions on movement other than those that apply when outbreaks of notifiable diseases occur.
