HC Deb 01 December 1970 vol 807 cc317-8W
46. Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why the Mac- Gregor Committee on the definition of drugs has been discontinued; and what measures he intends to take to ensure that this work is continued.

Mr. Alison

Because enquiries showed that "Proplist", the publication containing the Committee's classifications, was little used by general practitioners. The Health Services Councils are making new arrangements for advising whether certain borderline substances should be regarded as drugs or as foods, toilet preparations etc.

54. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the facilities available to allow a rapid determination of the drugs being misused by an addict, when he comes to a centre for the treatment of narcotic addiction; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

Yes. Laboratory facilities for this purpose are available to all such treatment centres.

73. Mr. McCartney

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will authorise the refund of prescription charges where the drugs or medicines prescribed are found to have undesirable side effects and have to be discontinued, or if for any other reason the treatment is altered and the original supplies of drugs or medicines are withdrawn.

Mr. Alison

No.
