HC Deb 30 April 1970 vol 800 cc378-9W
62. Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department under what circumstances the Metropolitan Police refuse to supply a copy of a statement made to them by a witness in a criminal proceedings to the witness or to the solicitors for a witness.

Mr. Elystan Morgan:

If a witness asks for a copy of his statement, he is normally provided with one unless there are grounds for believing that he requires it for some purpose which might prejudice the course of justice, but it is not the practice to supply a person who is not being called to give evidence with a copy of his statement unless he gives a good reason for requiring it.
