HL Deb 29 April 1970 vol 309 cc1102-3WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What financial subvention or aid under existing legislation has been granted to facilitate the construction of new tonnage by the firm of Harland & Wolff during the past financial year.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, MINI-STRY OF TECHNOLOGY (LORD DELACOURT-SMITH)

It is not the practice of the Government to disclose details of financial assistance given by the Ship-building Industry Board to individual shipbuilding companies under the provisions of the Shipbuilding Industry Acts 1967 and 1969. Information about assistance given by the Board to this company in the past year will be given in the Board's Annual Report for the financial year 1969–70.

In the past year, the Minister of Technology has given guarantees in respect of ships to be built in the company's yard for British shipowners under the provisions of Section 7 of the Ship-building Industry Act.
