HC Deb 29 April 1970 vol 800 c341W
90. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning what has been the impact of opening the Severn Bridge on trade and commerce on both sides of the Bristol Channel.

Mr. Urwin:

The final report of the research being carried out into the economic effects of the Severn Bridge and associated motorways is not yet completed and it would be premature to attempt to draw any firm conclusions. However, the bridge has, predictably, generated a considerable increase in traffic between the two sides of the estuary.
