Mr. Bob Brown:A possible standard for strength of sides of vehicles is under discussion in the Economic Commission for Europe's Working Party on the Construction of Vehicles.
§ Mr. Roseasked the Minister of Transport what steps he is taking to ensure the maximum damage resistant design of all future motor vehicles.
Mr. Bob Brown:We are concerned to prevent injury to vehicle occupants rather than damage to vehicles. The Regulation requiring a collapsible steering column will come into force for all new vehicles in 1972 and several other aspects of vehicle design relevant to injury reduction are under consideration.
§ Mr. Roseasked the Minister of Transport what steps he is taking to ensure high impact resistant fuel tanks as part of the design of all motor vehicles.
Mr. Bob Brown:We are discussing a possible standard with other Governments in the Economic Commission for Europe's Working Party on the Construction of Vehicles.
