Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity (1) how many industrial stoppages there were in Scotland and 1969 which were officially supported by trade unions; how many workers were involved, by industry; how many working days were lost, by industry; and what were the corresponding figures for 1968, 1966, 1964 and 1962;

(2) how many industrial stoppages were in Scotland in 1969 which were not officially supported by a trade union; how many workers were involved, by industry; how many working days were lost, by industry; and what were the corresponding figures for 1968, 1966, 1964 and 1962.

Mr. Harold Walker:

Separate estimates are available only for stoppages known to have been official. It is not known whether all the remainder were unofficial, but the great majority would have been so. Statistics of known official stoppages are not maintained by industry. The table below give the information available.
