HC Deb 29 April 1970 vol 800 c358W
Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many illegal marriages of young female immigrant children in Great Britain are known to the Registrar of Births, Death and Marriages or to the police.

Dr. John Dunwoody:

Illegal marriages of immigrant girls under the age of 16 are not necessarily brought to the attention of the Registrar General, but since 1965 he has learnt of two such cases in England and Wales, in both of which he reported the facts to the Director of Public Prosecutions. I understand that information about the numbers of such marriages known to the police is not available.
