HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 c296W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he submitted to the Roskill Commission of the cost and time scale of re-establishing the Shoeburyness facilities at an alternative location.

Mr. John Morris

The estimated cost given to the Roskill Commission for reestablishing the Proof and Experimental Establishment, Shoeburyness, at an alternative location, was £25.3 million exclusive of the cost of land. It was estimated that complete provision of the facilities required would take seven years but that the critical facilities could be completed in four years, inclusive of the planning period. The figure of £25.3 million quoted above does not include the cost of moving the other Ministry of Defence establishments in the Shoeburyness area should this be necessary.
