asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will take steps for a survey to be made of the number of rented private properties owned by persons living outside the local authority areas in which those properties are situated.

As no standard material contains address of landlord as well as of dwelling let (other than the rent registers which, covering only tenancies for which rents have been registered, could not yield a random sample for all privately rented dwellings), a survey to this end would have to be undertaken specially, and would involve considerable expense. As at present advised 1 do not think that this would be justified.
