HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 cc301-2W
Mr. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of homeless persons in Scotland at the last convenient date.

Mr. Ross

There is no single definition of "homeless". At 16th January, 1970, 403 persons were in temporary accommodation provided by local authorities under the Social Work (Scotland) Act, 1968. The number of families who are homeless in the sense of desiring a home of their own but at present having to share living accommodation with another family is not known, but is much larger.
