HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 cc288-9W
Lord Hamilton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the saving to be made to the Exchequer in 1970–71 by clawing back the whole family allowance from standard rate taxpayers by means of a reduction in the children's allowance against income tax.

Mr. Taverne

The extra tax yield to the Revenue if such an arrangement were to be put into force would be about £100 million for 1970–71.
