HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 c266W
45. Mr. Donald Williams

asked the Minister of Transport to what extent the two-stage wage increase awarded to British Road Service drivers in December, 1969 has been paid for out of increased productivity.

Mr. Murray

The agreement provided for an increase of £1 in basic rates subject to full co-operation from trade unions and staff in the introduction of productivity incentive bonus schemes related to the level of work done. I am told by the National Freight Corporation that it will he some time before the full benefits of the agreement are obtained but, in general, the improvements in productivity have been most encouraging and the levels of performance are matching the targets set.
