HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c227W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what action she has taken, or intends taking, to resolve the industrial dispute at Messrs. Pilkington Limited, in view of its effect on the motor industry.

Mr. Harold Walker:

My officers have kept closely in touch with the parties throughout this dispute and have attended all their recent joint discussions. The union last week recommended its members to resume work on the basis of the company's pay offer and a joint review of the wages structure and the negotiating machinery. Work has been resumed at a number of plants and the union is continuing its efforts to secure resumption elsewhere. I am very concerned about the effects of the strike and my officers will continue to give all the help they can.
