HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 cc225-6W
85. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what was the total number employed in the electronics and telecommunications industries in Scotland and Fife, respectively, at the end of 1964 and end of 1969; and what is the estimated expansion in the next two years.

Mr. Dell:

Industrial analyses for Scotland and for Fife are available only for June each year. The estimated numbers of employees in employment in Scotland in the electronics and telecommunications industries—Minimum List Headings 363 and 364 of the 1958 edition of the Standard Industrial Classification—at June, 1964, and June, 1969, were 15,100 and 31,400 respectively. At June, 1964, and June, 1968, the estimated numbers of employees in employment in these industries in Fife were 500 and 4,300, respectively. Estimates for Fife for June, 1969, are expected to become available next month. It is expected that during the next two years there will be a similar annual average increase in employment in Fife, but a lower rate of increase in Scotland as a whole.
