Mr. Henig

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will take steps to review the education and future purpose of the veterinary profession in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes:

Yes. My right hon. Friends and I received proposals to this effect from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. We intend to establish a Committee of Inquiry to consider and report on the future role and educational needs of the veterinary profession in the United Kingdom; and to make recommendations".

I shall be announcing the name of the Chairman as soon as possible.
