HC Deb 24 April 1970 vol 800 cc187-8W
Mr. Fortescue

asked the Minister of Transport what use his Department makes of the National Giro for regular payments of salaries and pensions, and for other purposes; and, in view of the under-used capacity of the Giro, whether he will consider using it more.

Mr. Bob Brown:

About 40 per cent. of payments to staff are made by National Giro. It is also being used exceptionally for special refunds of carrier licence fees. The use of Giro is always under consideration having regard to convenience and cost.
