HC Deb 24 April 1970 vol 800 c185W
Mr. Fortescue

asked the Minister of Technology what use his Department makes of the National Giro for regular payments of salaries and pensions, and for other purposes; and, in view of the under-used capacity of the Giro, whether he will consider using it more.

Mr. Carmichael:

National Giro is used as extensively as possible. Payments, by this means, of salaries and wages and associated allowances to Ministry staff were £1.9 million in 1969–70.
