HC Deb 24 April 1970 vol 800 cc183-4W
Mr. Derek Page

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in view of the fact that only 60 domiciliary visits were paid by the Department's headquarters staff during 1969, out of a total of nearly 7,000,000 domiciliary visits by other officers of the Department, he will take steps to increase the numbers of such visits by headquarters staff so as to give them first-hand experience of social circumstances.

Mr. Ennals:

Headquarters divisions dealing with social security benefits all include a substantial proportion of staff with local office experience. In particular, a large majority of the headquarters staff of the Supplementary Benefits Commission have had extensive firsthand experience of social circumstances including domiciliary visiting of supplementary benefit claimants.
