asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions there have been under the Civic Amenities Act, 1968 for abandoning motor vehicles on highways and open spaces; and what has been the average fine imposed.

In England and Wales 514 persons were proceeded against under Section 19(1)(a) of the Civic Amenities Act, 1967 between 27th August, 1967, when the Act came into force, and 30th September, 1969, the latest date for which information is available. Of this number, 468 were fined. The average fine imposed was £8 13s.
