HC Deb 23 April 1970 vol 800 cc124-5W
13. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what was the level of British aid to Tanzania in 1969, and in what form; what she proposes for the current year; and when this figure was last reviewed, in the light of the treatment of United Kingdom nationals in Tanzania.

Mrs. Hart:

£1.7 million during the calendar year 1969, in the form of compensation paid to former British pensionable officers of the Zanzibar Government; payment of pensions to retired British officers; and payments under technical assistance programmes being phased out following the decision taken in 1968 to discontinue aid.

As to the last part of the hon. Gentleman's Question, I would refer him to my answers to several Questions on 19th March.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if aid to Tanzania has now been resumed; and on what scale.

Mrs. Hart:

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I have given earlier his afternoon to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Norwood I Mr. John Fraser).
