HC Deb 23 April 1970 vol 800 cc152-3W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what representations he has received from the Association of Secondary Head Teachers of Lanarkshire about the staffing problems in secondary schools; and what reply he has sent;

(2) if he will take steps to improve the staffing of secondary schools in Lanarkshire.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received from the Association of Secondary Head Teachers of Lanarkshire about the staffing position in secondary schools; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Ross:

I have received a letter from the association urging that a provisional formula should be prescribed for the staffing of secondary schools as a first stage in the redistribution of teachers. I have replied that I am considering, in the light of the most recent statistics, what further short-term measures are needed to improve distribution, and that I shall take account of the view expressed by the association.
