HC Deb 23 April 1970 vol 800 cc148-9W
55. Mr. Thorpe

asked the Minister of Technology whether he will make a statement about the results of the meeting of the Joint Techno-Economic Group which recently met in Delhi.

Mr. Carmichael:

The first meeting of the Indo-British Technological Group, at t he opening of which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Overseas Development represented my right hon. Friend, was held in New Delhi from 9th to 11th February. The group included representatives of Government Departments and industry from both countries. It reviewed a wide range of matters concerning existing technological collaboration and investment in India and also the possibilities of new projects of mutual interest arising from the industrial needs brought to light in India's Fourth Economic Plan. It was agreed that a further meeting should be held in London later this year. I very much hope that we are building the foundations of closer understanding between the two countries on means of improving and extending industrial collaboration.
