Mr. Sheldon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of the level of military expenditure in the four quarters of 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972.

Mr. Healey:

The Government's plans for defence budget expenditure for the financial years 1970–71 and 1971–72 were given in Table 2.1 of " Public Expenditure 1968–69 to 1973–74 " (Cmnd. 4234), but no quarterly breakdown of the figures is available. Assessments of the quarterly out-turn figures for the defence budget for 1969 are given below. The corresponding figure for the first quarter of 1970 is not yet available.

£20 million in each quarter of 1969 for expenditure covered in Cmnd. 4290, Annex H, Table 1 (Persian Gulf and Far East). Figures for later years are not available
