Mr. Anderson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will examine the feasibility of using present and projected power stations on the Severn Estuary for fish farming.

Mr. Hoy:

No. There are still considerable scientific and practical problems to be overcome before fish farming on a commercial basis can be regarded as feasible. Even when outstanding problems are solved, it is unlikely that the Severn Estuary would provide suitable sites owing to the low salinity of the water.
