asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total value of the new fishing boats added. under the Fisheries Development Scheme of the Highlands and Islands Development Board, to the fishing fleet at Stornoway; what is the total value of grant and loan assistance, respectively, from the Highlands and Islands Development Board; and what are the totals of grant provided by the White Fish Authority and by the Herring Industry Board, respectively, in respect of these vessels.

Mr. Ross:

The value of the new boats added to the Stornoway fleet, excluding Scalpay boats, is £441,200.

The total loan assistance from the Highlands and Islands Development Board is £300,000: the boards does not pay grant under the scheme. Grant from the White Fish Authority amounted to £120,000: none of these boats has come within the scope of the Herring Industry Board's grants.
