HC Deb 21 April 1970 vol 800 c76W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that under present European Economic Community rules the United Kingdom will have to abandon its present restrictions on overseas investment which protect the balance of payments; and if he will make it a condition of the United Kingdom's agreeing to join the European Economic Community that this country should be exempt from this rule.

Mr. Diamond:

The E.E.C. rules are not quite as my hon. Friend states them. I would refer him to Chapter IV of the White Paper "Britain and the European Communities", Cmnd. 4289, in which the matter is quite fully discussed.
