HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 c44W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will describe the basis on which he decides whether special financial assistance should be provided to corporation housing authorities which are compelled to rehouse people in houses built and maintained outside their own local authority boundary.

Mr. Freeson:

Under the Housing Subsidies Act, 1967, a supplementary subsidy of £12 a year for 10 years is payable for dwellings provided by receiving authorities carrying out substantial town development schemes. This subsidy is normally matched by an equivalent contribution from the sending authority from whose area the tenants come. A similar supplementary subsidy is available to a local authority whose own area is overcrowded, and who itself provides dwellings outside its boundaries as part of a scheme of comprehensive development, the the general character of which is similar to a new town development.
